Everyone who goes to a yoga class expects to do some physical activity, but they will be surprise to find that it is more than a fitness session. Being “present” with the body can be a novel experience for those who live each day with their mind on one thing and their body doing something completely different. This disconnection between body and mind can be stressful and contribute to physical discomfort. This need not be so. Yoga helps to reconnect mind and body, and thus bring some relief of tension and stress. Dahn Yoga takes it a step further by teaching sensitivity to energy. This is an awareness that activates and intensifies the mind body connection.

One of Dahn Yoga’s key energy principles emphasizes the relationship between the mind and energy. Shim Ki Hyul Jung is a Korean phrase that means “Where the mind goes, energy follows.” It starts with learning to focus your mind on your lower abdomen during a class. This makes each exercise more effective. But it also u room for you to be conscious of how your body feels. This is important, as many studies have show that what you think about your body can contribute to its healing.
