Born in South Korea in 1950, Ilchi Lee once struggled through school. But he still had an inner craving to discover his purpose in life, and sought knowledge in different ways. After engaging in an intense 21-day ascetic practice, Ilchi Lee came to the realization that his energy—and all humans’ energy—is one with the energy of the entire universe. He also concluded that humans can either heal or destroy Earth based on how they harness the power of their brains. Those realizations have been the inspiration for Dahn Yoga.
Dahn Yoga’s beginnings can be traced to a park in Anyang, South Korea, where Ilchi Lee would teach basic mind-body exercises in the early mornings, as the weather permitted. But as his practice in the park gained popularity over the next five years, students asked to meet year-round, not just when the skies were clear. In 1985, Ilchi Lee finally rented a small studio space in Seoul: the first Dahn Yoga Center was born.
Since then, Dahn Yoga has reached thousands of people worldwide, with studios in several countries. Ilchi Lee, striving to share his vision in new ways, has spent over three decades crafting training programs, articulating brain education methods, organizing conferences and events, authoring books, managing several businesses, and cultivating non-profit organizations that aspire to the same goal: to empower individuals to positively change themselves, and the world, through brain mastery.
Ilchi Lee is the founder and president of the Korea Institute of Brain Sciences (KIBS), the University of Brain Education (UBE), and the Global Cyber University in South Korea. He is also the founder of the Tao Fellowship and the International Brain Education Association (IBREA), a non-profit that promotes brain education.
