Connecting With Myself
Dina, Union Square center, NY
I have been a member of the Tao Yoga and Tai Chi center at Union Square for about two or so years now. One of the most amazing things about this practice, for me, is how it has increased my ability to feel the connection between my mind, body and energy. This practice has helped me feel and understand my body and its condition on a much deeper level and to be able to work toward continually adjusting myself by drawing my attention to my mind and the sensations in my body. Sometimes, it's as simple as checking throughout the day my shoulders and other parts of my body to see where I'm holding tension or discomfort and asking, myself "Why?"
Before I started practicing Dahn Yoga, the connections between my body and my thoughts could have taken days or even weeks to discover; now I feel I am more able to find the connections between my mind, the sensations in my body, and even outside stimuli in a matter of hours or even minutes. The practice of asking "Why?" or "What is the connection?" has helped me "see myself" more clearly and also stay in the present. I feel I'm able to be more true to myself. As a result, bringing my awareness and consciousness to my mind, I am able to use my focus to send my breath and energy to parts of my body that need extra attention and love. So, the Universal Principle of "Where the Mind Goes Energy Flows" is something I am not just seing in my practice but also using in my daily life.
