DahnYoga.com is getting a makeover!

On June 1, Dahn Yoga will introduce the new dahnyoga.com. Made with you in mind, the new design includes individual home pages for each Dahn Yoga Center. In just one short week, you'll be able to visit www.dahnyoga.com/yourcenter for details about the latest events, schedule updates, and even testimonials from people you might see taking class right next to you.
The new website will also feature a "What’s New" section, where you will find nation-wide Dahn Yoga news through DahnTV, online articles about Dahn Yoga and other topics related to holistic wellness, and an online version of our newsletter, Dahn Yoga Life! We will also offer online video exercise tips. So if you've ever wanted to share a Dahn Yoga exercise with a friend, you'll be able to send them a link so that they can learn how to do it right away.
If you've been looking for an easy way to introduce Dahn Yoga to a friend, family member, or co-worker, the new Dahn Yoga website will offer a comprehensive introduction to the practice. They can read clear information about the purpose, mission, history, and principles of Dahn Yoga, and even schedule an Introductory Session online at the center of their choice.
We hope you visit our newly designed website regularly as a source of practical information and inspiration to enhance your Dahn Yoga practice. If you have any feedback or ideas regarding what you would like to see on dahnyoga.com in the future, please contact us at dahnyogalife@dahnyoga.com. |
| Change begins from the inside out
Summer is an especially important time to keep doing intestine exercises. As the weather gets hotter, people can be more inclined to consume cold foods and drinks. In spite of increases in outdoor temperatures, however, the temperature inside the body does not change, and greater consumption of cold food and beverages can create more tension in the lower abdomen.
Physically, beside the commonly known effects on weight and digestion, healthy intestines create lustrous hair, strong nails, and beautiful skin. Stagnant energy in the intestines can contribute to skin disorders, brittle hair, fatigue, and an overall lackluster look caused by a back-up of toxins in the body.
Intestine exercises are simple but highly effective and often provide immediate results. If you have a huge buildup of toxins in your intestines (from sickness, drugs, excessive stress, or lack of movement), it’s better to start slowly and gradually increase the speed and number.
This is how you do it (Form 1):
All new members at the Dahn Yoga Centers start with this beginner form. Please speak with your instructor if you are ready to move on to the next level.
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, and arch your lower back, pushing your buttocks backward.
- Open your chest, relax your shoulders, and pull your chin in slightly.
- Put your thumbs on your navel, and your fingers on your kihae point (located 2.5 inches below your navel).
- Focus on your lower abdominal wall, and pull it in, and push it out.
The ideal speed is quick (doing 2-3 sets of in and out per second), with a smooth rhythm; and strongly pull in and push out (about 1 inch from the center line).
Most beginners have a hard time maintaing the speed, strength, and rhythm, due to stiffness of the lower abdominal muscles. People who have too much tension in the chest and abdomen may also feel awkward coordinating breathing with intestine exercises at first.
After days and weeks of daily practice, however, you will find that you’re doing the intestine exercises faster and you can do more repetitions before losing the rhythm. A healthy goal to set is to be able to do 100 intestine exercises strongly, quickly, and smoothly. In the meantime, breathe as naturally as possible, and take breaks when it feels too awkward, tiring, or stuffy. |
