Taking Care of Our Kids
In many ways, the way we educate our children is changing as fast as we’ve gone from pagers to cell phones to smart phones. In others, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that there’s still a lot of room for improvement.
Enter Joanne Steller (in photo at right) and Jane Gordon, Brain Management Consultants in the Washington, DC area who are teaching their students to be flexible and resilient in both body and mind.
Helping her students learn fractions with their back bends, “Sungbit” Joanne Steller guides students through Brain Education exercises at Kimball Elementary School. Joanne has worked with the students and teachers in her classes to adapt Brain Education to the children’s curriculum.
But not only do they integrate the exercises into the learning process, the teachers show the kids how to use the exercises to help them cope with stress and negative emotions. The children are also able to take the exercises home with them; for example, they know that when they go home, tapping their mom’s back will help Mom feel refreshed and might even get them an energizing back-tapping in return.
Jane Gordon teaches eighth grade in a public school, as well as afterschool classes at two other schools, and on top of that, classes in the evenings at the Burke Dahn Yoga Center. She had a stroke just a few months ago, but some people might find it hard to believe that she's already back to work in full force. Jane believes that her Dahn Yoga practice, especially Brain Wave Vibration, speeded her recovery. She notes, "My doctors were amazed!"
A credit to Dahn Yoga practitioners everywhere, Jane and Joanne are two radiant women with warm hearts and big dreams who throw themselves into their work with the passion that can only come from absolute conviction about what they want and need to do, and how to do it.

Sending Kids to Camp
A core philosophy of the Dahn Yoga practice involves Hongik--an ideal that combines altruism and service for both collective and personal benefit. Simply put, the best way to complete your soul is to love others and yourself.
Dahn Yoga, as a corporation, is highly proactive about incorporating the Hongik ideal into its business practice and also encourages pracitioners to exercise the same principles.
Camp Soaring Eagle is a non-profit with a mission "To give kids with serious illnesses and their families a chance to discover the healing power of laughter... that sickness has too long denied them by providing camping experiences filled with excitement, challenge and fun in a medically safe setting--free of charge." For every $500 raised, one child can receive the gift of a beautiful camp experience.
Last month, the Dahn Foundation sent a group consisting of Dahn Yoga employees and members to volunteer at a fundraiser held by Camp Soaring Eagle. They helped raise enough money to enable 17 children to attend camp.
The Dahn Foundation has already pledged to send 2 children to camp and hopes to generate enough funding to help even more. If you would like to support the Dahn Foundation by volunteering or providing a donation, please contact info@dahnfoundation.org.
