Breathe Your Way Through Summer

Jungchoong Breathing, a standard training method in Dahn Yoga, requires little space, makes no noise, and is a great way to replenish your energy in a short time.

It's easy to practice the breathing holding whichever poses you feel comfortable with. If you're thinking, "I'm so tired I can barely move a muscle!" go with posture 1. For this posture, all you have to do is lie down comfortably and place your hands on your dahnjon (the energy center in your lower belly).

The important difference is what you do with your mind. Even if you only have 5 minutes, bring your mind away from any worries or anxieties and back into your body. See what sensations you feel in each part of your body as you move your awareness from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, then again from your head down into your dahnjon; and feel your hands and belly grow warm as it fills with energy.

It's incredibly effective and almost ridiculously simple. Generally, it takes consistent practice to experience more noticeable changes, but why don't you give it a try tonight, just before you go to sleep, and see if anything feels different in the morning?

Here's Posture 1. For more information about the 5 postures of Jungchoong Breathing, please see the article in the August issue of Dahn Yoga Life or online in the "What's New" section of the Dahn Yoga website.

Future Leaders of the Earth, Unite

They plant trees, clean beaches, teach Dahn Yoga exercises at senior centers and parks, feel their connectedness with the Earth, and are determined to change the world—they're the spirited young Dahn Yoga members of the Young Earth Human Alliance (YEHA).

They experience intensive training in regional as well as national programs, such as the YEHA BMC (Brain Management Consultant) course offered several times a year.

Here's what some of them had to say about YEHA BMC:

"I realized nothing can be more beautiful than leaving the comfort zone behind and to sweat and struggle and break through to the other side. I felt so satisfied to feel space inside my body, to have discipline and to do see everything as my spiritual practice."
-Henrietta, New York

"The most challenging part of the training for me was overcoming my ego. I was in denial of how strongly it had its grasp on me. As such, this was the most deeply satisfying experience of the training—to let it go and overcome it."
-Nicholas, Wisconsin

“I got to know much more about myself and the explanation about the relationship between the self and the driver and how it can be enhanced by doing suhaeng (training for spiritual growth) filled me with joy and hope.”
-Karem, New Mexico
