Wow, My Body Feels Like New!
Although people who are new to Dahn Yoga may initially find the various tapping exercises a little unexpected, they're a very popular and distinctive aspect of the practice. In Korea, where Dahn Yoga originated, tapping is actually quite common: for example, hitting your chest is an everyday gesture expressing frustration or anguish, mothers pat their baby's back or chest to soothe them to sleep, or your friends may tap the center of your upper back if you have a sudden case of indigestion.
In the U.S., it seems that the idea of striking your own body generally is, at best, weird or funny; or at worst, conjures up images of horror and self-abuse. But if you think about it, what's the difference between clapping your hands and clapping other parts of your body (like your legs or your liver)?
Actually, not only is tapping a highly effective method for health and relief from various common ailments, it's beginning to gain acceptance and grow in popularity as an effective method for health and well-being even in the Western world. Those who have tried it will agree: tapping really helps your body feel like new!

Conquering Migraines with Mind
"My body is not me, but mine." The profoundness of this statement really hits home for a lot of Dahn Yoga practitioners. If you've spent your whole life with a subtle feeling that your body was the one making all the decisions, not you, you may find that Dahn Yoga classes can help you take the reins.
One member from the Brooklyn Heights Dahn Yoga Center, Karen Doukas (pictured right), found relief from a lifetime of migraine symptoms through her Dahn Yoga practice. Karen's migraines presented challenges in many aspects of her life, and she tried many different medications that were less than ideal until, finally, she learned to heal herself through holistic therapies and nutrition.
When Karen discovered Dahn Yoga, she started with Dahnjon Tapping and Dahnjon Breathing exercises, learned to control her body and master her pain, and even decided to become an instructor. She writes, "I would like to tel people with migraines that there's hope."
Find out more about Karen's story, in her own words, and learn what Dahn Yoga Trainer Chungsuk Lee recommends for headache help. |
