Triumph of the Human Mind

On February 8, 2011, Body and Brain franchise owner Bette Castoria of Nob Hill, NM, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

In response to this news, Joongji Sunsanim, CEO of Dahn Yoga in the U. S., urged Dahn Yoga instructors around the country to send LifeParticles to Bette in their daily meditation. In addition, Bette received support from Kim, her regional trainer, and special acupuncture work through Banya Lim, the Oriental Medicine doctor in Sedona, Arizona.

Three weeks after the diagnosis, a few symptoms remained; another three weeks and her double vision had improved. Nine weeks after the diagnosis, her vision was completely normal and she began working full time again. Thirteen weeks after the initial diagnosis, she went back to the hospital for another MRI. The doctor was astounded when she delivered the results of the MRI: “It is gone.”

Bette excitedly declared, “It’s a miracle!” The doctor responded, “It’s very abnormal that it is gone.” Miracle or abnormality, call it whatever you want, but it’s gone. Read more about Bette's story.

Tao Marker #7: Five Characters

How much has your soul grown?” If someone asked you this question, you would probably stare at them in confusion, and for good reason. Since the soul is not physical, there is no tangible method of measurement to gauge its growth.

Then, how does your soul express itself in your daily life? It reveals itself through relationships. A snapshot of your soul that is seen in many relationships, including relationships with other people and with the natural world, that is your character. Character reveals the extent to which your soul has grown.

How does one develop good character? Character is a kind of habit in your lifestyle. Helping people in need and being diligent and kind, all of these are habits. Such good habits are created when your awareness is focused on making good choices. Therefore, in order to develop good character, you must change your habits by constantly making good choices in your life.

Read more about the five characters to illuminate your soul.

From Pain to Compassion

Seven years ago, when Gregory Quinn walked into the operating room to get his first surgery, he felt as if his life were over. Years of stress as a Human Resources Manager had culminated in a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis that required removal of his large intestine.

He started Dahn Yoga practice in Wyckoff, NJ and learned how to gain control over his body, but also to keep hope and a positive mind even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

In 2007, six months after a liver transplant, Gregory embarked upon his journey of education to become a Dahn Yoga instructor; his first classes were teaching senior citizens.

Today, as a Brain Management Consultant, he teaches a 45-minute Brain Education program in 9 different locations, including Gilda’s Club, which is a cancer recovery facility, and a multiple sclerosis patient’s home. Click here to read Greg's story.
