Something you may notice when you walk into a Dahn Yoga center is a large image containing what looks like Chinese characters. There are some people who immediately ask what it is and what it means, wondering whether it is a prayer or scripture. Others may just accept it as a beautiful work of art or poetry. In a sense, it is all of those things.
The Chun Bu Kyung is an ancient text believed to be written over 9,000 years ago. First recorded with figures resembling deer-hoof markings, it was translated into what some consider Chinese characters, some 2,000 years ago.
The name “Chun Bu Kyung” means “Heavenly Code.” This text consists of 81 characters reflecting ancient universal wisdom that communicates the process of the creation of the cosmos and a message of its essential unity.
It begins with one and ends with one, and speaks to us of the divine origin of all things, the primal Oneness. All things flow from this divine, essential unity and return to it. We are all connected and unified. Though seemingly separate from each other, from plants, animals, and other aspects of creation, we are all one. This principle has also been addressed by quantum physics.
The Chun Bu Kyung teaches us how to realize and flow with this essential pattern of life. If we recognize the oneness of our body and mind, we can generate strength and resilience. If we recognize our oneness with other humans, we develop compassion and need not fear any adversary. If we recognize our oneness with the Earth and its life, we can live in harmony and meet all of our material needs. There are innumerable messages to be found the more one studies this sacred text.
Within the characters of the Chun Bu Kyung lie an expression of mathematics, philosophy, energy studies, and poetic metaphor. The Chun Bu Kyung combines these characteristics to describe principles of harmonious order that can even be applied to the human body, specifically the chakra system.
Visually meditating on the characters or chanting the sounds brings peace, clarity, or simple relaxation. These are ancient universal principles, which are not bound to religion, so applying the Chun Bu Kyung is effective, regardless of your background or belief system. Anyone can benefit from this powerful tool for meditation.
In a sense, the Chun Bu Kyung also speaks of the evolution of life. All living things are born, grow, and eventually die and return to the One. For human beings, the Chun Bu Kyung depicts life as a journey toward the completion of the soul, a return to the essential Oneness. This process of completion of the soul coincides with the activation of the chakra system in the body.
So the Chun Bu Kyung can be read as a guide for understanding and activating the chakras on the path of realization and completion. As a profound guide to the True Self, it can help you understand how principles of the universe can inspire your life.
