Why don’t I feel tired even after a one-hour workout?

September 27th, 2011

She was almost a pitiful sight, obviously drained of energy from the day’s tension and stress as a legal assistant, and hard not to notice as she almost dragged herself into the evening’s Dahn Yoga class. Then, hardly an hour later, overflowing with strength and vitality, this same member exited the training room as if she were flying, and exclaimed, “Actually, I was so tired today that I thought I couldn’t come to yoga and I was just going to go home. But I’m really glad I came here. If I went home, I would have watched TV for awhile and then fallen asleep.”

Many have had this same “before and after” experience that exemplifies Dahn Yoga’s tremendous capacity for rejuvenation. In fact, it happens all the time!

What makes Dahn Yoga so extraordinary? Let us compare Dahn Yoga to exercising at the gym, which emphasizes the development of muscle strength. When one’s mind and body are stiff and tension is ignored, such repetitive emphasis on muscle strengthening can lead to severe muscle soreness and fatigue. On the other hand, Dahn Yoga is an energy-based yoga that emphasizes blood and energy circulation throughout the whole body; thus, after your workout, you’re actually filled with energy and your body feels lighter.

Consider the Dahn Yoga principle of ShimKiHyolJung, which means, “Where the mind goes, energy and blood follow.” In Dahn Yoga, when you focus your awareness on the blocked areas of your body and combine that with movement and breathing, ki energy and oxygen are supplied through the twelve meridians and blood vessels, respectively, to every part of your body.

Especially through the Jungchoong breathing, we can feel energy filling up our body—very much like a battery being charged.

If you were to take pictures of yourself before and after class, you would have demonstrable proof of the positive effect of Dahn Yoga classes.
