Meridians Unveiled by Science

Korean scientists’ astonishing research shows evidence of meridians

Meridians, or energy channels, are part of the foundation of Eastern medicine and, although they are invisible, it has been established theory thus far to believe in their existence. But what if it were possible to see such energy channels?

A significant shift in meridian research occurred in 2008 when Dr. Soh Gwangsuh and his associate researchers at Seoul University in South Korea began to target only the meridians in organisms with “Trypan blue dye.”

Since the delicacy and transparency of meridians are difficult to confirm without dyeing, this technique demonstrated their transparency as well as their thickness, which is about the same as a hair strand. Inside, liquid flows very slowly, much slower than lymphatic fluid and even more so than blood.

Modern medicine had previously thought there were only two types of pathways by which cancer could spread—the blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. With the official recognition of the existence of meridians, a third vascular system will be unveiled and, in a sense, a third metastatic route will have been found. The Korean researchers have renamed the meridian system “primo” and plan to present the findings in international scientific journals.

Although such findings are significant enough to shock the global medical field, they did not elicit a large scale response because they were presented in a less prominent academic journal. Nevertheless, scientists in Korea, the US, and China, who had been closely observing the results, have initiated meridian research.

In the US, Dr. Donald Miller, Director of the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville, and Dr. Samuel Achilefu from the Washington University School of Medicine, are currently researching meridians. There are also two groups in China, including the Chinese Medical Research Institute, and eight groups in South Korea, who have underaken investigations.

Meridians have been observed in place for various specific parts of the body, but in order to verify them as a third vascular system, it is necessary to discover a network that runs throughout the entire body. As the number of researchers increases worldwide and greater research funds are invested, it is likely that conclusive evidence of a meridian network will simply be a matter of time.

Along with the publication of an English language book titled, “The Primo Vascular System, Its Role in Cancer and Regeneration” in October of 2011, Dr. Gwangsup’s research team presented their findings at the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine.

As the team’s leader, Dr. Gwangsup stated, “The discovery of a third vascular system establishes the scientific foundation for Eastern medicine, making the integration of Eastern and Western medicine possible; and beyond that, will provide a historical turning point as a new paradigm for modern medicine with regard to cancer and stem cells, for example. I hope that new breakthroughs for the cure of incurable diseases can become available and contribute greatly to human health and curing illness.”
